Brac, Uvala Luka
Situated on the north shore of Brac near its eastern end this inlet is one of the most sheltered anchorages in the area offering excellent all round protection from just about any weather (though some easterlies can create a swell in the bay). The location itself is pleasant and well off the beaten tourist track. The bay offers opportunities to anchor, moor on buoys (Seven buoys with anchors of 2.5 tonnes. Two with anchors of 4 tonnes - fee payable on all) or against the small, fixed concrete pontoon in front of one the bay’s restaurants (the Pipo Quay).
Anchorages can be found in the small bay to the north-east of the restaurants in 5 metres of water and in the longer arm to there east, where there is a mussel farm, in between 5-7 m of water. Anchoring in the immediate vicinity of Konoba Pipo seems to be discouraged, during our visit we saw one boat drop a hook outside the area of buoys and off the shore near the quay, only to be moved on my the man managing the moorings.
On shore the Konobo Pipo (4 flags) offers excellent, if basic, local fare, particularly lamb cooked over an open fire. There are also rooms to rent, toilets (accessible to those who have paid a mooring fee on a buoy or at the jetty) and water for those at the the jetty.
Uvala Luka is part of a three armed bay which includes the town of Povlja in an arm that runs to the south-east. There you will find a small harbour with berths that include laid power and water. But of the three arms of the bay Uvala Luka offers by far the best shelter.
Shelter: Good in all directions though some swells in easterlies
Depths: 3-15 metres
Bottom: Sand and ?Shingle?
Holding: Reported as good - lines should be taken ashore during a Bora
Hazards: When entering the bay keep at least 1 cable length from the shore. No other hazards reported.
Services: Two restaurants, the Konoba Pipo and Konoba Rade (+ (0)98 867 292). Supermarket, medical centre, post office and other local services are available in Povlja ca 3km to the east.
