Pakleni Otoci, Sv. Klement, Uvala Stari Stani (East)
Uvala Stari Stani is the quiet open bay located immediately to the west of Uvala Vinogradse on the south shore of Otok St Klement. Vinogradse is a popular bay and often over crowded because of the access it offers by water taxi from ACI Palmizana to Hvar Town. Either side of it are a number of less crowded anchorages that offer varying degrees of shelter and services such as restaurants.
On the face of it Uvala Stari Stani is possibly the least attractive of these as there are no services and in any weather from the SW, S or SE it offers no shelter what-so-ever. Our visit however was during a forecast for gusts of up to 20kts overnight from the N and NE, for which it provides excellent shelter. The bay is broad with two short arms, the western of the two offering some limited shelter from SW weather had 4 boats in it during our visit, the eastern arm was totally deserted and we had it to ourselves for the night.
In the eastern arm holding is good in 6-10 metres of water with sand and weed on the bottom, and we would recommend taking a line ashore (obviously depending on the weather you are expecting) though there is plenty of room to swing freely on 3-4 scope anchored in 10-15m. This bay offers an excellent and quiet opportunity for a lunch stop in an area of busy anchorages and a good over-nighter when the prevailing conditions require shelter from NE lys and N lys.
Shelter: Open to south and south-west
Depths: 6-10 metres
Bottom: Sand and weed
Hazards: Very exposed to south and south-westerly weather
Shore Access: Across the rocky shore via tender
Services: Seasonal bar/restaurants and water taxis to Hvar (from ACI Palmizana)
