Harbours

Croatia and its islands have hundreds of harbours of all shapes and sizes. Some will accept yachts of any type, draught or size while others are limited by their depth and dimensions. Many of the bigger harbours have a permanent staff who will help you moor up, and facilities such as, Customs, power, water and in some cases toilets and showers.

In some locations harbours are an alternative to the marina, offering a different and more immediate experience of a village or town. In other locations harbours are the only choice as no marina exists. Services vary massively - from none at all to everything you might get at a marina; some have lazy lines while others require you to drop an anchor and motor back onto the wall.

Here are just a few...

If you have a harbour review you want to post please click here.
Sipanska Luka (bay) runs south-east into the heart of Otok Sipan for 3nm and at its widest point (its entrance) is a 1nm across. At its south-east end is the village of Sipanska Luka (Luka Town) a clatter of houses, small holdings and restaurants surrounding a large open bay which for much of its coast has been protected by a concrete harbour wall.

The town boasts all of the facilities one might expect in a small Croatian settlement including a good choice of restaurants and bars, a bank machine and cycle hire as well as one hotel and a tourist office. The main attraction here for any staying for more than a quick overnight stop are the potential for a day walking with options ranging from the 7km to Sudurad, through a route along the southern edge of Sipanska Luka to various beaches, to a climb to the highest point on the island Sv. Ilija, overlooking the bay and the town (ca 5km round).

Sipanska Luka (Town) is one of two good havens on Otok Sipan the other being at Sudurad at the Island’s south-east end. Sipan the first large island to the north-west of Dubrovnik. The harbour in Luka offers stern too mooring in between 2-2.5 metres (at the dock edge) to the south east of the ferry pier on the north-east side of the bay (port side as you enter).

The dock has around 10-12 laid moorings with access to water and one or two power hook-ups. Like a lot of small towns the harbour master/assistant should be on hand to help mooring, but is some times absent in reality. In the shelter of the ferry pier this harbour wall provides excellent shelter, though a swell is said to build up when the wind blows from the north-west. It is not clear how much shelter the pier will provide.

Pilot books seem to suggest there is more depth against this harbour wall than was apparent during our visit, though there may be up to 3 metres of depth for a boat of around 40 ft mooring stern too, but care should be taken over the available depth even in the scope of the very limited Adriatic tide. If in doubt about the available depth you should consider taking a buoy at the Kod Marka restaurant on the other side of the bay (opposite the harbour wall) or dropping a anchor in the centre of the bay.

Moorings shown in most pilots to the south against the harbour wall at the end of the bay in front of the hotel appear to be impractical for all but the very shallowest craft. Against the wall there is between 0.5-1m of water and the depth only increases very gently as you move north-west out into the bay.

(Photos)

If you want to share a good or bad experience about the Sipanska Luka Harbour, submit a review or photographs click here

(Summer Season)

Harbour wall - water with one or two power hookups
Harbour assistance
Fuel available in Dubrovnik - 15nm
Bank machine
Shops (2 general stores)
Ferries

42°43’50”N 17°51’42”E

Hvar Town is one of the busiest and most popular harbours in the Adriatic. It attracts yachts of all sizes and it is not unusual to find one or more (usually motor) yachts of over 100 feet moored against the wall. Actual wall moorings are limited as much of the space is reserved for the passenger ferry and the cruising gullets - the large wooden motor cruisers that ply the Dalmatian coast.

Moorings against the wall are with lazy-lines and have power and water. There is a smaller dock at the back of the harbour for international arrivals and departures. Several orange t-shirted dock-hands/deputy harbour masters are usually on hand to help with mooring.

There is space in the harbour for as many boats again (as can lie at the wall) to anchor. This again is usually assisted by the dock-hands/deputy harbour masters who patrol the harbour in a small dingy and may well indicate where they wish you to drop your hook. It is not unusual to find 30 or more yachts at anchor within the harbour. The bottom is reported as mud with good holding and the Hvar Harbour is sheltered in all but westerly and south-easterly weather when it can be affected by swells.

The approach is straight forward particularly from the west though consult the chart and pilot as there are a number of lights and smaller islands to navigate through before you reach the entrance to the harbour. This is one of the busiest yacht harbours in Croatia so If you take a run through the basin and there is no buoy/anchor space and the harbour wall is full, ACI Palmizana is just a couple of nautical miles across the water on St Klement, from where there are regular water taxi links to Hvar Town.

(Photos)

If you want to share a good or bad experience about the Hvar Town Harbour, submit a review or photographs click here

(Summer Season)

Harbour wall - power and water
Port of Entry (- separate wall moorings)
Harbourmaster, Customs and Police.
Fuel available in the bay to the east (Krizna Luka) - 0.5nm
Bank
Post Office
Shops including several supermarkets
Medical Centre
Dentist
Pharmacy
Ferries

43°10’12”N 16°26’42”E

Telephone
Harbour Master : +385 (0)21 741 007
Port of Entry: +385 (0)21 741 100
Police: +385 (0)21 741 033
Health Centre +385 (0)21 741 111

Key
A - Ferry Quay - no mooring here
B - Tour/Excursion boat mooring
C - Visiting Yacht Quay.
Situated on the north shore of Brac near its eastern end this inlet is one of the most sheltered anchorages in the area offering excellent all round protection from just about any weather (though some easterlies can create a swell in the bay). As well as opportunities to anchor or take a buoy you can also moor against the fixed concrete pontoon in front of the Konoba Pipo.

On shore the Konobo Pipo (4 flags) offers excellent, if basic, local fare, particularly lamb cooked over an open fire. There are also rooms to rent, toilets (accessible to those who have paid a mooring fee on a buoy or at the jetty) and water for those at the the jetty.

Uvala Luka is part of a three armed bay which includes the town of Povlja in an arm that runs to the south-east. There you will find a small harbour with berths that include laid power and water. But of the three arms of the bay Uvala Luka offers by far the best shelter.

If you want to share a good or bad experience on the Pipo Quay, submit a review or photographs click here

Photos

(Seasonal?)

Harbour wall - power? and water
Harbour assistance (summer)
Fuel available at the jetty next to the fish factory in Milna
Konoba Pipo
Konoba Rade - +385 (0)98 867 292
Supermarket, medical centre, post office and other local services are available in Povlja ca 3km to the east.

43°20’32”N 16°48’55”E

Website http://www.pipo1.com/

A couple of km north of the bay containing the town and harbour of Milna on the western shore of Brac you will find the narrow inlet of Uvala Bobovicse. Running inland this inlet forks with potential anchorages to the north (port as you enter) and the town and harbour to the south (starbord as you enter).

Heading into the town you will find a quiet little settlement with laid moorings, power and water against a short harbour wall that can accommodate around 10 vessels. ‘Parking’ is quite tight as there is relatively little room for manoeuvre but as with most Croatian harbours there is a ‘harbour master’ on hand to help you get tied up and to take your fees.

The town itself is entirely centred around the harbour and has several restaurants by way of services. The Konoba Vala, overlooking the harbour wall, was lively, well frequented and during our visit played music through till around 21:30 before falling silent. The Grill Nazor restaurant was closed during our visit in early July 2009. In addition to the restaurants there is toilets and rubbish bins beyond the small park at the head of the bay. There is also a small grocery store and on occasion fresh fish can be bought directly from the town’s small fishing boats.

There you will also find a statue and several plaques dedicated to the Croatian Politician, Author and Poet Vladimir Nazor, who’s childhood home was in Bobovicse. To the west towards the sea there are several designated swimming areas, marked by ropes and float lines, this is probably a good thing in what is otherwise a narrow inlet with yachts and other boats passing up and down it.

This quiet little harbour is a fantastic place to stop either simply for a visit to Brac (and it looks as if it might have good potential as a base for walking) or as a convienient stop-over coming to or from any one of the charter bases and main Marina’s on the main shore (ACI Split, ACI Trogir, Kremik, Kastel etc). It is generally quiet, friendly and makes a great alternative for those who do not want to try either ACI Milna or Marina Vlaska in the adjacent and larger town of Milna. One note of caution regards strong winds from the South-West which can build a swell up in the harbour. We were present during a westerly and there was no swell, but it required a lot of tension on the lazy line to ensure we were moored square to the harbour wall.

Photos

(Year round?)

Harbour wall - power and water
Harbour assistance (summer)
Fuel available at the jetty next to the fish factory in Milna approximately 2nm to the south
Grocery beside the Park
Buses connect with the Suptar ferry to Split

43°21’01”N 16°27’08”E

Telephone

If you want to share a good or bad experience about the Kut Harbour, submit a review or photographs click here

Approaching from the north you will pass an outer breakwater on the east side of the bay (flashing red light (Fl.R. 3s) at its end). and then an inner breakwater on the west side of the bay marked with a flashing green light (Fl. G. 3s).

The town is larger than Vrboska offering more of the bustle typical of Hvar Town. It has a number of popular restaurants, bars and hotels to cater for all tastes as well as a variety of shops and super markets, a daily fruit and veg market, bank, post office, pharmacy and health centre.

While this is an attractive overnight stop be certain of the weather. The harbour is exposed to Northerly and North-easterly winds and can be dangerous in stronger wind speeds and the moorings are subject to strong reflected swells. Boats tend to move to Vrboska under such conditions where the shelter is better.

The town was founded in the 14th century and has an interesting network of older streets and buildings to wander through as well as later 19th century? formal gardens and Austro-Hungarian buildings towards the west end of the harbour. There are the usual tourist shops and stalls, though here the particularly specialise in lavender and other essential oil products such as rosemary oil.

The nearest fuel is in Vrboska only 2 miles to the west.

If you want to share a good or bad experience about the Jelsa Harbour, submit a review or photographs click here

Photos

(Year round?)

Harbour quay - power and water
Harbourmaster
Fuel available at Vrboska (2nm west)
Shops including supermarkets in the town
Bank
Post office
Pharmacy

43°09’08”N 16°42’00”E

Telephone
Harbour Master : +385 (0)21 761 055
Health Centre: +385 (0)21 761 194
Pharmacy: +385 (0)21 761 108
Police: +385 (0)21 741 033 (Hvar Town)

The town is located at the eastern end of the long inlet of Stari Grad Zaljev and is an increasingly popular tourist resort with a mixture of winding 16th Century streets and the splendour of crumbling Austro-Hungarian buildings and heritage going back to the 4th Century BC.

The approach to the harbour is straight forward, passing the ferry terminal (2 lights on the south side of the bay) before you reach the town, where the entrance is marked by green and red lights on the shore. Watch for the un-lit green buoy which marks a rock and should be left to starboard during your approach, before mooring stern-to against the harbour wall. This can be tricky in a westerly and north-westerly wind. The harbour has power and water laid on and is a summer port of entry.

Stari Grad offers good all around shelter except for winds from the West and North-west. A strong sirocco can also cause a surge or increase in the water level in the harbour.

The town is relatively large and has a wide range of shops and restaurants and other local services including banks and a post office. There is a daily fruit and veg market, a fish market, bakery, a pharmacy and also a hardware store that sells some items of chandlery. Stari Grad has bus links to most other parts of Hvar and is a ferry port with car ferries coming from Hvar and heading on to Korcula. There is a large, modern supermarket close to the Ferry Terminal just outside the town to the west.

The nearest fuel is in Vrboska only 4 miles to the east but around 15nm by sea.

If you want to share a good or bad experience about the Stari Grad Harbour, submit a review or photographs click here

Photos

(Year round?)

Harbour quay - power and water
Harbourmaster
Fuel available at Vrboska (15nm east)
Shops including supermarkets in the town
Bank
Post office
Pharmacy

43°11’00”N 16°35’08”E

Telephone
Harbour Master : +385 (0)21 765 060
Doctors +385 (0)21 765 373 and 766 200
Dentists: +385 (0)21 765 090 and 766 220
Pharmacy: +385 (0)21 765 061
Police: +385 (0)21 741 033 (Hvar Town)

Located on the southern shore of Hvar right at the eastern end of the island, Sucuraj is a busy little fishing and ferry port. Ferries depart here hourly during the day for the town of Drevnik on the mainland, plying back and forth constantly (departing every 2 hours or so) bringing cars and foot passengers to Hvar.

This is not a regular stop for yachts so the facilities are limited, however this is one of its charms. Mooring is against a wooden pier just beyond the ferry jetty in the middle harbour. Here the helpful harbour mistress will direct you to moor ‘alongside’ in between 2.5-3m of water. Be sure to have plenty of fenders out as the rubber ‘bumpers’ on the pier will protect your hull but are apt to leave marks on it.

Generally you will be encouraged as far up (west) the pier as possible as local excursion boats drop off and pick up at the eastern end. You will need all your lines here for springs and mooring, a habit easily forgotten in the Adriatic world of lazylines and mooring stern to. There is power and water on this pier with access to temporary public toilets behind the ferry terminal.

There is some mooring in the outer harbour against the concrete harbour wall just inside the harbour entrance. These moorings are stern too, but have no power and water and look exposed not only to the weather but also to the wake of the ferry as it passes this basin to reach its jetty in the middle harbour.

While shelter is reasonable in a easterly or south-easterly an uncomfortable surge may develop in the harbour.

Space on the east side of the middle harbour is for the larger fishing boats and overnight mooring for local excursion boats. The inner harbour shallows quickly and is probably inaccessible to most charter yachts.

This is a handy stop over point for those going from the west end of Hvar, Brac or Split towards Korcula and points to the south, and for those coming from Korcula towards the north. Though frequently passed by we would advocate taking the time to look into the little harbour. The town itself has a number of nice bars, ice cream parlours and restaurants, there are some good beaches several small supermarkets, a bank and a generally relaxed and airy feel: everything needed to make a stopover worthwhile.

If you want to share a good or bad experience about the Sucuraj Harbour, submit a review or photographs click here

Photos

(Year round?)

Middle Harbour pier - power and water
Outher Harbour wall - no services
Harbourmaster
Fuel available at Vrboska (22nm west) or Hvar Town (33nm west)
Shops including supermarkets in the town
Bank
Post office

43°07’05”N 17°11’06”E

Telephone
Harbour Master : +385 (0)21 773 228
Health Centre +385 (0)21 773 210
Jadrolina Ferry Terminal Office +385 (0)21 773 433
Police: +385 (0)21 741 033 (Hvar Town)

Located on the eastern side of Viska Luka bay, the harbour wall at Kut is quieter and usually less crowded than the main mooring at Vis Town. Lazy-lines are laid on as is power and water and there is usually a a member of Harbour staff on hand to offer a friendly and helpful service with mooring. There is a new harbour office just behind the dock where staff are very helpful. Payment is currently cash-only (as of 2009) though there was talk of card facilities for the future.

With 2-4 metres of water you will usually find this area restricted to yachts and motor-cruisers of less than 50 feet. Kut also provides better all round shelter and is less susceptible to the uncomfortable swell caused by south-easterly weather. As the harbour wall in Vis town itself (about 1 km walk to the west) is more trendy, bigger yachts tend to head in that direction. Anchoring in the inner bay is now prohibited but is possible in the outer bay. It is not unusual to find larger vessels, possibly one from the Croatian Navy, at anchor here.

During the summer Vis Town is a Port of Entry, with moorings by the Ferry Dock in Viska Luka, with the Harbour Office opposite.

For more Information about Vis click here.
For information about Viska Luka Harbour click here.

If you want to share a good or bad experience about the Kut Harbour, submit a review or photographs click here.

(Summer Season)

Harbour wall - power and water
Port of Entry (- separate wall moorings) in Vis Town
Harbourmaster, Customs and Police in Vis Town
Fuel available on west side of Viska Luka
Bank in Vis Town
Post Office in Vis Town
Shops including several supermarkets
Dive Centre
Medical Centre
Vet
Dentist
Pharmacy
Ferries

43°03’36”N 16°11’48”E

Telephone
Harbour Master : +385 (0)21 711-111
Port of Entry: +385 (0)21 711-111
Customs: +385 (0)21 711-571
Police: +385 (0)21 711-006 or 711-130
Health Centre +385 (0)21 711-117
Vet: +385 (0)21 711-007

Key
A - Vis Town Harbour (power and water)
B - Kut Harbour (power and water)
C - Fuel berth (no anchoring in the inner harbour)
D - Barrel shaped fortresses prominent on hills at the harbour entrance
E - Rogacic Anchorage, some poor holding in the eastern inlet
(Click on chart to enlarge)
Mooring is stern or bow to, with lazy-lines. Deputy harbour master/dock hands are available to assist and will direct you to where they want you to tie up. This is a popular harbour with many restaurants and is often busy and is frequently full before 16: 00 hrs. Put out plenty of fenders on both side as they tend to wedge boats in very tight (see this news) which is not a bad thing as long as you are prepared.

From the harbour wall it is a short walk into the town (2 minutes) where you will find all the usual services. You can also anchor in the bay, though it is recommended during the Bora that you then run a line to the stone bollards sited in the water towards the shore, for additional security. The bottom is reported as mud with good holding.

When the weather is from the west or south-west big sea can run into the harbour making the approach difficult.

The harbour office - located at the shore end of the breakwater is friendly and helpful but be aware that it is a ‘cash-only’ operation (as of 2009); they do not take any cards at all.

For more information about Komiza click here

If you want to share a good or bad experience about the Komiza Harbour, submit a review or photographs click here

(Summer Season)

Harbour wall - power and water
Public Toilet
Port of Entry
Harbourmaster, Customs and Police
Fuel available in Viska Luka 6nm to the east
Bank
Post Office
Shops including a supermarket
Dive centre
Medical Centre
Pharmacy
Chandler

43°02’42”N 16°05’30”E

Telephone
Harbour Master : +385 (0)21 713 085
Port of Entry: +385 (0) 21 713 085
Customs: +385 (0)21 713 058
Police: +385 (0)21 711-006 or 711-130 (Vis Town)
Health Centre +385 (0)21 713 122

Key
A - Harbour office
B - Laid moorings against harbour wall in 2-3 metres with water and power
C - Chandler
D - Stone bollards can be used for taking line ashore for boats at anchor
(Click on chart to enlarge)

In the largest bay on the Islands eastern shore there are two opportunities to moor up, ACI Zut and the ‘micro marina or harbour’ or the Restoran Festa.

Festa’s moorings can accommodate around 10-12 boats primarily against a floating pontoon, though on the website there are pictures of larger vessels moored stern too against the stone quay. Moorings are free to customers of the Restaurant (which we rate 4 flags), though a small charge is made for electricity and water (see below). When you consider that all power is generated on site, and the water is provided by means of a desalinator plant - this seems more than reasonable.

The Festa is open year around and also has some single, double and triple rooms and the proprietor has plans to expand his business into year-round ‘eco-tourism’ Unlike the other establishments on the island, generates some of his power by means of solar energy (as well as by the more usual diesel generator), runs his own water desalination plant to provide his fresh water and treats most of the waste generated by the business on site.

Year round

Pontoon and harbour wall
Power (75 kn/day between hours of 0800-1200 and 1800-000)
Water (0.5 kn/litre)
Mooring assistance
Fuel available at Dugi Otok 8nm to the east

If you want to be the first to share a good or bad experience about the Festa Harbour, submit a review or photographs click here

43°53’12”N 15°17’24”E

Telephone: 022 786 0410 / 099 473 519
Website: www.zut.hr
Email: restoran-festa@zut.hr

Key
A - ACI Zut
B - Konoba Sandra
C - Restoran and Harbour Festa
(Click on chart to enlarge)

The towns of Vrboska, Jelsa (4 km to the east) and Starigrad (10km to the west) have all the style and interest of the chic Hvar Town, but without any of the false glitz that has driven the costs of a visit there endlessly upwards.

The town of Vrboska is located at the end of a long east-west inlet and provides excellent all-round shelter (though surges of up to 2 metres have been recorded when the Jugo blows). It is often the case that boats from Jelsa have to seek shelter here when winds get up.

Passing ACI Vrboska and heading up into the heart of this small town you will find the town quay. Here friendly and extremely helpful staff (Josko and his brother Franko) will help you moor against the harbour wall, offering as much (or as little) assistance as you need. Customer satisfaction and a family orientated service is central to the facility that Jusko and Franko maintain and they are able to organise many of the additional services you may also require (bike and car hire, apartments and even laundry.)

This facility puts you right in the centre of town, but the pace of life here is such that, generally you will not be disturbed by endless traffic, or loud music either from other boats or from the many near-at-hand cafes.

Vrboska town harbour is excellent value for money (at 50-66% of the cost of the town’s ACI marina) and is well worth consideration when looking for somewhere to moor. Competition for business between the ACI and the harbour is fierce and both will try to attract your attention with whistles. Watch for the harbour RIB, which often patrols the entrance to the inlet to let customers know there is an alternative to the marina.

Vrboska harbour wall can accommodate around 30 vessels so if you are intent on staying there on a particular night it may be worth phoning ahead to book a space.

(Year round)

Harbour wall - power and water
Harbourmaster
Fuel available to the east between the Harbour and ACI Marina
Bank beside the Harbour Wall
Post Office beside the Harbour Wall
Shops including several supermarkets in the town

43°10’08”N 16°40’09”E

Telephone
Harbour Master : +385 (0)98 1903 256 or email: jkrstin4@net.hr
Police: +385 (0)21 741 033 (Hvar Town)
Health Centre: +385 (0)21 761 194 (Jelsa)
Pharmacy: +385 (0)21 761 108 (Jelsa)

If you want to share a good or bad experience about the Vrboska Harbour, submit a review or photographs click here

There are also a number of (20+) mooring buoys laid in 5-6 metres lying in the shelter of the town to the east of the harbour.

The harbour wall has between 2-3 metres of water so is resticted in the size of vessel it can take and all but the smallest boats should avoid being directed towards the inner wall where depths can be less than 1 metre. As with most harbours there are staff on hand to aid in mooring and collect fees.

If picking up a buoy select any available one to suit and the staff will collect fees from a rib. While the location is idillic and the town well worth the visit if the weather is south-westerly or southerly a swell builds up in the bay making the mooring buoys very uncomfortable and to be avoided if space is available against the wall.

For more information about Primosten click here
For more information about Kremik Marina click here

(Summer Season)

Outer harbour wall - power and water
Port of Entry
Harbourmaster, Customs and Police
Fuel available in the new town (no mooring - so by container)
Bank
Post Office
Buses
Shops including several supermarkets
Medical Centre
Pharmacy

43°35’06”N 15°55’48”E

Telephone
Harbour Master : +385 (0)22 570 266
Port of Entry: +385 (0)22 570 266
Customs:+385 (0)22 570 266
Police: emergency dial 92
Health Centre: emergency dial 94

Be the FIRST to rate Primosten Harbour, submit a review or photographs click here

Whether you consider this idillic bay a harbour or an anchorage it is a must visit. Located on the northern shore of the remote island of Lastovo it is one of the great secrets of the yachting fraternity of Croatia.

They bay has two apparent entrances either side of a small island that sits on its seaward side and provides all round shelter with the exception of north-easterly winds. Only the eastern entrance is passable. Once inside there is plenty of space to anchor but also three small pontoons provided by the three restaurants on the bay’s southern shore. Of these we have reports for the most westerly - Augusta Insula where one of the proprietors will help you moor against their well appointed pontoon. Mooring is free if you eat at their restaurant and there is space for about 20+ boats. Water and power are available on request. We rate this site 5 flags on the basis of location and service at Augusta Insula as well as the available services

The other two restaurants in the bay, Triton and Aragosta seem to operate similar arrangements. There is a harbour wall along the western edge of the bay with some deep water mooring, but this is usually occupied by Gullets and other cruise boats.

A road leads from the back of the bay east and up hill for 2-3 kms into the town of Lastovo where most of the local services are located.

For more information about Lastovo click here

(Summer Season)

Insula Agusta Pontoon - power and water
Fuel available in Ubli ca 5nm to the west
Port of entry in Ubli ca 5nm to the west
Bank in Lastovo Town
Post Office in Lastovo Town or Ubli
Shops including a supermarket in Lastovo Town
Medical Centre in Lastovo Town and Ubli
Pharmacy in Lastovo

42°46’24”N 16°52’42”E

Telephone
Harbourmaster: +385 (0)20 805 006 (Ubli)
Insula Agusta : +385 (0)20 801 167 or (0) 98 938 6035
Kanoba Argosta: +385 (0) 20 801 163 or (0) 91 531 1074
Kanoba Triton: +385 (0)20 801 161 or (0)99 503 735
Police: +385 (0)20 801 021
Health Centre: +385 (0)20 801 034

If you want to share a good or bad experience about the Zaklopatica Harbour, submit a review or photographs click here
Boats drop an anchor then reverse onto the wall to moor. The northern end of the Quay is reserved for gullet cruise boats and ferries.

The Quay is 2 minutes walk from the town and is a year-round Port of Entry with the Harbourmaster’s office, the police and the customs just behind the Quay. Unlike many of the towns on the Croatian shore Sibernik has not had the major influx of money and redevelopment associated with being a major tourist destination - it is for the most part a working town. Having said that it has many attractions and good shopping too as well as many facilities - don’t be put off by the slightly down at heal feel.

The wall is easy to moor against with plenty of space. There is no power and water is only available on request for filling tanks. In south-westerly weather a swell can build up so it is worth taking up a second lazy-line if one is available to moor more securely. There is (during the summer at least) usually a member of harbour staff on hand to take your fees though he has a big area to cover and is not alway visible at first sight. There is also a large commercial harbour at Sibenik to the south-east of the town and the Mandelina Marina.

The harbour wall is backed by a busy thoroughfare but there are few water front bars so it is actually quite quiet at night. While some reports suggest that lazy-lines have been laid, as of 2008 it was still a case of dropping an anchor and motoring back onto the wall. It should be noted that holding in front of the wall is not great either.

The harbour is quiet however and the island is a beautiful and unspoiled spot with interesting walks. There are several restaurant/bars in the village along with a small but well stocked shop. The port also has a ferry dock (with services morning and evening) where a yacht might moor temporarily to collect crew.

In the southern part of the bay it is possible to anchor in 6-8 metres of water but bearing in mind the access for ferries. Take a line ashore if necessary. Good protection from all weathers

The wall is supposed to be being developed into a ‘marina’ (possibly a serviced harbour facility) in which case expect facilities to improve.)

Harbour wall - (no lazy lines as of 2008)
Shop
Post office
Ferries to Trogir (morning and evening)

42°27’00”N 16°08’54”E

Telephone

If you want to share a good or bad experience about the Veli Drvenik Harbour, submit a review or photographs click here
Lazy-lines are laid on as is power and water and there is usually a a member of harbour staff on hand to offer a friendly and helpful service with mooring in 3-6 metres of water and to collect fees.

Vis town is less sheltered than Kut and is susceptible to to the uncomfortable swell caused by south-easterly weather. This part of Vis Town is more vibrant than Kut and has a lively night life amongst the water front bars and restaurants that many will enjoy but some might find noisy at night. Between Vis Town and Kut over 70 yachts can be accommodated so there is usually space for all in the bay. Anchoring is no longer allowed in the inner bay but good spots can be found further out.

During the summer Vis Town is a Port of Entry, with moorings by the Ferry Dock at the western end of the harbour wall. The Harbour Office is opposite the ferry dock.

For more Information about Otok Vis click here
For information about Kut Harbour click here

(Summer Season)

Harbour wall - power and water
Port of Entry (- separate wall moorings)
Harbourmaster, Customs and Police
Fuel available on west side of Viska Luka
Bank
Post Office
Shops including several supermarkets
Dive Centre
Medical Centre
Vet
Dentist
Pharmacy
Ferries

43°03’36”N 16°11’48”E

Telephone
Harbour Master : +385 (0)21 711-111
Port of Entry: +385 (0)21 711-111
Customs: +385 (0)21 711-571
Police: +385 (0)21 711-006 or 711-130
Health Centre +385 (0)21 711-117
Vet: +385 (0)21 711-007

If you want to be ther FIRST to rate the Viska Luka (Vis Town) Harbour, submit a review or photographs click here
