Otok Korcula: Lumbarda Marina
Lumbarda Marina offers a handy alternative for those passing through the east end of the Peljeski Kanal who either do not want to stay at the ACI Marina in Korcula Town or who cannot get into that facility because it is full. In fact, though Lumbarda is probably just as busy, particularly as it seems to have more permanently resident boats, the atmosphere and service in this privately run facility is considerably more relaxed and friendly than that of the ACI.
Unless you feel the absolute need to be at the centre of the Korcula Town hubbub, or if you are making regular passage through the Peljeski Kanal and prefer the quite life but still need the full service of a Marina (power, water and shore facilities), then Lumbarda is the place for you. Korcula Town is still accessible (either by tender - 15 to 20 minutes along the shore or by bus) but it is far enough away that you do not need to bother with it unless you really want too.
The marina sits in the centre of the Lumbara town and offers a mixture of floating concrete pontoons and harbour walls with direct access to the bars and restaurants and other services (including banks and a supermarket) in the town. The facility feels well run though shore services give the appearance of being part completed, they are however clean and modern and during our visit there was plenty of hot water.
Lumbarda makes a great jumping off point if heading south towards Mljet or a stop over if you are going to transit north through the Peljeski Kanal. If the Marina is full there are anchoring options in the adjacent bay (in 4-6 metres) of water though winds from the north and east can build an uncomfortable swell in this area.
Wait to be directed to a berth before mooring up.
