ACI Palmizana

Located in the Pakleni Otoci, on Sv. Klement opposite of the town of Hvar this seasonal marina provides the easiest berthing for Hvar where the harbour is congested and expensive. Floating pontoons provide 160 berths is a sheltered idilic bay. The marina has toilets and shower (not always the best maintained), a shop which is larger than many of the marina shops and several bar/restaurants within easy walking distance of the pontoons.

Access to Hvar Town is by means of water buses (they call themselves taxis but only run when they are full) these come at two prices 50 kuna or 100 kuna per head with the more expensive price buying a much quicker crossing of 7-10 minutes.

As with all ACI marinas the staff will be on hand to direct you to a mooring and help you tie up. This marina is seasonal serving the charter and summer cruising market and as such as facilities limited to wet berths.

The Pakleni Otoci are renowned for their beaches and coves, many of which are designated as nudist beaches. But following the paths away from the marina across the island brings you to large bay of Uvala Vinogradisce with rocky and sandy beaches along with several bar/restaurants all of which seem to be family friendly.

While some of the facilities here are more basic the location is idillic and ideal for access to Hvar Town.

ACI Milna, Brac

ACI Milna is located within the town of Milna at the western end of Otok Brac close to the heart of the town and adjacent to the fishing quays. Some reports in pilots and other guides suggest the proximity to the fishing boat repair yards can make this a noisy place to stay (see below).

The marina encompasses the whole of the southern arm of the bay around which Milna sits. Moorings are on pootoons on the west side of the bay (to the right as you enter) and against the harbour wall on the east and south side of the bay (to the left as you enter). There appears to be no independently managed harbour mooring at all as all are under the management of the ACI marina. Its location is right in the centre of this small town and provides excellent all round shelter and immediate access to all of the town’s services including cafe’s restaurants, supermarkets and other shops. There is also a fuel berth.

For a harbour with no direct ferry connections Milna is a bustling little place with plenty to keep the visitor busy for an overnight visit. There is a good choice of restaurants including one within the marina itself, the Zuti macak which was well attended during our visit and offered an interesting range of food from pasta through fish and meat to local specialities as well as a good breakfast menu ((095) 819 4099)

Facilities are clean, modern and well maintained, and while the marina staff are surly and loud as they direct you to a berth (as in most ACI marinas), they are helpful and they get the job done. During our visit in late June on a Sunday, we arrived at around 1800 and still found space available, later in the season you could however imagine spaces being harder to find later in the day.

Reports of noise from the fishing pier were (at least on a Sunday night / Monday morning) over exaggerated - this frequently re quoted fact has kept us from visiting ACI Milna for 5 years - which is a shame, because this is a nice facility and well worth a stop either on your way out or on your way back to Split, or as you pass the western end of Brac heading north or south.

ACI Milna offers fuel, 144 wet berths and 16 shore berths along with a 10 ton crane. The adjacent boat yard specializes in the repair of wooden vessels up to 120 tons.

There is also a second marina in Milna (the Vlaska) located near the entrance to the inlet but further from the town.

ACI Split

Split is a World Heritage Site, listed primarily for Diocletian’s Palace and its Roman heritage, but it also has a fantastic network of medieval streets and many shops targeting tourism. In addition the city is a major travel hub with an international airport, bus connections and also a ferry port that serves many of the Dalmatian islands as well as international routes to Italy and Greece. The marina is located a 20 minute walk from the main tourist centre, but offers a boat transfer of 5 minutes to the Riva area of town.

ACI Split, located on the west side of Gradski Luka has 345 wet berths and 60 dry berths and is equipped to handle ‘mega-yachts’. Facilities include a 10 ton crane, a slip which can handle boats up to 35 tons and a needle crane for masting.

While staff are helpful and friendly and every effort is made to find you a berth, even on the busy Friday night (preceding charter change-over Saturday) the shore facilities (toilets and showers particularly) here are not great, they are small, worn and over stretched. What-is-more the popularity of Split as a visitor attraction also leads this marina to charge in the highest of ACI price brackets leaving you with a sense that it is not particularly good value for money.

If, like us, you are forced here by the need to make a crew change it is a perfectly acceptable (and perhaps your only) option, however if you are coming here simply to see the sights there are other options, not least the excellent ACI facility at Trogir, a 30-40 minute bus ride north from Split.

Marina Vlaska, Milna

Located at the entrance to the Milna bay at the western end of the Island of Brac is one of the few thriving private marina’s in the Croatian Islands. It is open year round but has only wet berths. Facilities include well maintained toilets and showers, and 24 hour power and water. Staff are friendly and helpful, assisting as necessary with mooring. The nearest restaurant is only 10 minutes walk and the town of Milna is 20 minutes on foot or 5 minutes by tender. There you will find all of the usual services, shops and restaurants. The site is staffed from early to late by a ‘harbour master’ and is often preferred to the ACI Milna marina because it is quieter.

Vlaska is in a small bay on the port side (north) as you approach the town of Milna and trades off its distance from the centre of the town for a quieter environment. The pontoons and facilities are well maintained and the staff are all helpful particularly helping with mooring which can be tight. New apartments have been built on the hill above the marina.

ACI Piskera

The only marina actually located with the Kornati National Park, this facility is found on the park’s western side. The approach - from the south is through a narrow channel that gives way to a wide but shallow bay formed between two of the islands. Depth may be an issue here. Remarkably uncrowded - at least in June this is a quiet marina in a stunning location. It provides 120 water berths on floating pontoons on a season basis.

Water and electricity are available (though not for 24 hours a day). There is a shop which is stocked with all of the basics, toilets and showers as well as small bar/restaurant.

If you are visiting the Kornati this is a fantastic place to spend a night, remote and beautiful a walk across the island above the marina office will afford you an excellent view of the western side of the Kornati. While the facilities are the most basic that ACI provide they are clean and functional and are more than offset by the stunning location.

Do not forget that you need to buy a ticket for the National Park if you intend to spend a night here. These are available from the tourist agencies in the big cities, from the Marina Office at Kremik (if you are chartering from there) and also from the ACI marina offices in the area of the park.

ACI Zut

The island of Zut can be found on the eastern side of the Kornati National Park at its northern end. ACI Zut is one of two marinas that serve the National Park on a seasonal basis. The marina is located in a large bay on the island’s eastern shore and is well sheltered in all but southerly (Sirocco) winds when mooring against its fixed concrete pontoons can be extremely tricky.

Staff are very helpful and friendly and can be of great assistance when mooring up. The marina has a small shop, a bar/restaurant and power and water - though both are limited. Power is only available during the day between 8-12am and 6-12pm when the generator is running and water between the hours of 8-10am.

There are several smaller pontoons in the west of the bay, where moorings are provided by Restoran Festa for their patrons. These are both floating pontoons. For those mooring at the ACI Zut the restaurants (Festa and Sandra) are accessible on foot.

Marina Kremik

Marina Kremik is one of the largest independent marinas in Croatia and is also the home base of many of the charter companies (including Sunsail, Veritas and Mande Charter) who serve the central Dalmatian (Split) area. It is located to the north of Split and Trogir and immediately to the south of the town of Primosten and can be accessed by car, bus (if you bribe the driver to make an unscheduled stop) or by taxi. Regular local and national bus services stop in Primosten from where the marina operates a mini-bus service.

The marina is clean and well run with both wet and dry berths along with hoists and cranes. There are a chandlers a brokerage and a well stocked (but expensive) supermarket as well as a large restaurant that serves good food at a reasonable price. All local services including shops, supermarkets and restaurants can also be found in Primosten.

Kremik is a large modern facility, open year round with excellent pontoons and finger berths. It is in the perfect location for cruising north to the Kornati National Park or south toward the outer islands of Vis and Lastovo.

The site is gated and also offers some limited secure parking.

ACI Korcula

Located on the east side of Korcula Town at the eastern end of the Peljeski Kanal. This marina is usually busy as Korcula is one of the tourist jewels of the Adriatic along with Dubrovnik, Hvar and Split with its grid of medieval streets, its fortifications, its connections to Marco Polo and its famed sword dance.

ACI Korcula has 159 wet berths and 16 dry berths and is open year-round. Its services include a 10 ton crane, a slipway, a Marine repair shop, laundry and restaurants. The site also has shore accommodation comprising 13 spacious suites and 4 rooms. Its shore facilities are clean and well maintained, but are limited in size for the popularity of the site.

Only 5 minutes walk from the town, there you will find many restaurants and bars as well as this stunning and fantastic walled town with over 2500 years of history and architecture to admire. Korcula is a year-round Port of Entry with the Harbourmaster’s offices, the Customs and Police all being found on the Town Quay.

If full marina facilities are not essential then other options for mooring around Korcula Town include the Town Quay (though this is exposed during wester weather that builds a big swell running down the Peljeska Kanal) and anchourages such as Uvala Banja around 1km to the west of the town.

ACI Vrboska

Located on the northern shore of Hvar to the east of Starigrad, this marina gives excellent access to the northern side of this historic island, with its Roman, Greek and Illyrian history as well as its Medieval architecture and its 19th century Lavender industry.

Vrboska offers the chance to visit the northern shore of what is considered to be the most chic of the Dalmatian Islands. The towns of Vrboska, Jelsa (4 km to the east) and Starigrad (10km to the west) have all the style and interest of the chic Hvar Town, but without any of the false glitz that has driven the costs of a visit there endlessly upwards.

The town of Vrboska is located at the end of a long east-west inlet and provides excellent all-round shelter (though surges of up to 2 metres have been recorded when the Jugo blows). It is often the case that boats from Jelsa have to seek shelter here when winds get up.

The ACI Marina at the entrance of the inlet on the edge of the town and provides a good option if you require the full services and facilities of a marina. As ACI sites go this one is excellent, with friendly staff and good facilities - it is also reasonably priced - for a marina. However If full marina facilities are not a necessity then the Town Harbour (around 300m further up the inlet) is definitely better value at up to half of the price of the ACI facility.

Both the ACI and the Town Harbour staff will try to attract your attention and direct you towards a berth using whistles, so be certain you are heading to the facility you want to use.

Currently ACI Vrboska is listed as having 85 wet berths and 25 dry berths and offers a maintenance shop and a 5 ton crane amongst other facilities. There is apparently a proposal (summer 2009) to add another pontoon to the marina which is predicted to add a further 40+ berths to the site.

ACI Trogir

ACI Trogir is located on the shore of Otok Ciovo on the opposite side of the channel (and just a short, 10 minute, walk) from the historic town of Trogir. The town itself is a tourist centre and is famed for its medieval streets, its cathedral (the view from its tower is fantastic) and its later medeival fortifications including the Kamerlengo Castle and St Marc’s Tower.

ACI Trogir offers 179 wet berths and 35 dry berths and is open throughout the year. There is a fuel berth located to the west of the marina. Trogir has excellent connections to the national road system and is particularly convenient for Split and it’s international airport.

Staff are friendly, services including the bar/restaurant are great and the facilities are clean and well maintained. This is a great location from which to visit both the historic town of Trogir and also (by bus) Split. As ACI Marinas go is one of the better facilities.

The only difficulty you may encounter is getting a berth on a Friday or a Saturday. According to some reports the marina has a policy of turning new arrivals away on Friday to ensure it maintains enough space for the charter yachts that use it as a base (Ecos, Waypoint and Ultra among others). Having said that we were told by one visitor that they had arrived on a Thursday and been allowed to stay on the Friday.

Marina Hramina: Murter

Located on the east shore of a bay at the north end of Otok Murter . The island is famed for its olive groves and its Roman remains though it is also known to have been occupied in prehistoric times.

Marina Hramina has 400 sea berths and 250 dry berths covered by security cameras. It has a 15 ton crane and a 70 ton travel lift that can handle boats up to 25 metres. Other facilities include a repair shop and engine work shop, bars, restaurants, a hotel, shops and chandlery and access to a local beach.

Marina Betina: Murter

Located on the north east shore of Otok Murter . The island is famed for its olive groves and its Roman remains though it is also known to have been occupied in prehistoric times.

This privately owned marina offers 240 wet berths along with repair and maintenance services and 120 parking spots. It is open year around and also has good access to the shops and tourist services of Murter town. The marina has an associated ship yard adjacent that was established in 1948 so repair facilities are said to be excellent.

ACI Dubrovnik

Much has been written about Dubrovnik - world hertiage site, medieval walled town, jewel of the Adriatic - so there is little need to add to it here. ACI Dubrovnik is located on a long inlet north of the city (6km from the old town).

The Marina offers 350 wet berths and 140 dry berths and is equipped to handle ‘mega-yachts’. Its facilities include a maintenance shop, a 60 ton travel lift and other services including a small shopping mall, a chandlers and tennis courts. Dubrovnik also is served by ferries and an international airport (23 km south).

ACI Vodice

The town of Vodice was established during the Turkish conquests during the 15th Century, though it stands on the site of earlier Roman settlements. It is famed for its wells and never-ending water supply the remains of which can be seen in the form of Roman cisterns and medieval wells. Other remains close to the town include the Prehistoric Hillfort at Prizba.

ACI Vodice is located in the north-east part of the town harbour. It has 290 wet berths and 60 dry berths as well as a 10 ton crane and 30 ton travel lift.

ACI Jezera

ACI Jezera is located on the south east side of the Island of Murter and makes a reasonable centre for touring the whole of the island, though there are two other (private) marinas - Betina and Hramina as well. The island is famed for its olive groves and its Roman remains though it is also known to have been occupied in prehistoric times.

ACI Jezera is open year round and has 166 wet berths and 60 dry berths. It also offers a 10 ton crane and has parking facilities. There is access from the mainland to Otok Murter by means of a bridge at Tisno and is convienent for both Zadar and Split.
