Buffet Tramonto: Korcula Town
Buffet Tramonto is listed in many of the tourist guides as one of THE places to eat in Korcula old town, particularly if you are looking for Pizza or Pasta. Lonely Planet goes as far as listing the Tramonto as the 12th out of 24 things you should do on Otok Korcula as a whole.
We are not so sure what all of the fuss is about? Our visit was on a wet night at the end of June when we were denied the obvious pleasure of the outside seating that has splendid views along the Peljeski Kanal to the west (and what on most days should be a fantastic sun set). Instead we sat in the small and basic restaurant area inside.
The buffet Tramonto can be found on the west side of Korcula Old Town, at the end of Ulica Ismaeli with an indoor seating area and tables one the top of the town walls opposite. It styles itself as a ‘Buffet Italiano Dalmatia’ so be in the mood for Italian food. We found the service quick and efficient, though not particularly friendly and as Croatian pizza went it was not the best but by no means the worst either (ditto for the pasta). At the time of our visit (2008) prices were also reasonable.
Perhaps we caught the Tramonto on a bad day, possibly the rain had dampened our enthusiasm or maybe the delight of this place is in the external seating area, but we were certainly underwelmed by our visit. That said it was reasonable value and the food was certainly above average quality - if specifically Italian food is on the agenda (and its not raining) this establishment may well be worth a look!
