Retoran Alka, Trogir
The Alka feels like the grand old man of Trogir dining and was established in 1966 by the family who still run it today. It represents the pinnacle of eating in the old town of Trogir (though I have no doubt other restaurants would claim otherwise). The restaurant has inside and outside seating (we have tried both over the years) with the outdoor tables being in a square on the east side of the road from the main restaurant, in delightful surroundings in the very heart of old Trogir.
The uniformed waiters are polite and quick with their service, though when the restaurant is busy (it can seat 90) this slows somewhat. The menu offers a fantastic range of both traditional Dalmatian dishes of the Split region and also more international food as well and all seem to be prepared to the highest standards and well presented at the table. There is also a good wine list.
Overall this establishment is more expensive than most, though given the quality of the food it does not feel too expensive and on several occasions we have felt it was actually a bargain on the cost front, so generally it is worthwhile with the quality of the food and friendly nature of the place more than justifying the extra cost.
