Net mending workshop, Vrboska
Sites of historic interest: fishing heritage
On the north side of the square where the Church of Sv Marija sits is the workshop of a local net mender. In the evenings he can be seen outside the door of his premises working with traditional tools to repair fishing nets.
Inside his workshop is a chaotic collection of tools, fishing equipment and other memorabilia but well worth a quick visit as it provides the opportunity to see this once common, but now rapidly disappearing craft (net repair) in action.
There are no advertised opening times.
Otok Hvar: on the northern shore to the east of Starigrad and the west of Jelsa . Take the side streets from the south side of the harbour up the hill towards the church which stands in a large open square at the top of the hill. The workshop is on the south side of the square.
