On the south shore of the island to the east of Hvar Town and Milna, this beach looks out over the Adriatic to the island of Scredo and beyond to Korcula and Vis. Though remote it is a popular holiday spot with a number of apartments for rent. The beaches are pebbly and rocky as with most of Croatia’s shore but it is well worth the visit.

Zavala is accessed by road either from Hvar Town or Stari Grad.

Otok Hvar: Take the mountain road from Jelsa to Pitve and continue south until you reach a tunnel that takes you through the mountain spine of the island. During our visit in 2005 this tunnel was controlled by traffic lights but also had passing places along its length. On the far side follow the road down into Zavala.
