Hvar: Fort Napoleon
Type
Sites of historic interest (fortification), Panoramic Viewpoint
On top of the highest hill (240m) overlooking the Town of Hvar is Fort Napoleon, constructed during the Napoleonic wars and the French occupation of the area. The fort itself is not open to the public as it in use by the Croatian Coastgaurd, but for those who make their way up to the top of this hill you can walk around the fort and get great views in all directions.
The fort is visible from the town and particularly the Spanjola fortress, but only once you are there do you realise exactly what a commanding position it occupies. As well as views to the main land and Brac (to the north) you get good views of Korcula and Vis to the south and possibly the best view of the Pakleni and Hvar Town itself.
Access
Park by the fort then walk.
